Strategy and Development Officer

The Torchlight Campus Policy Center is seeking a Strategy and Development Officer to take our student think tank/start-up nonprofit to the next level. This is a pivotal position and we hope to find an inspired candidate to join us.


We seek a sharp, dynamic, and experienced student to join our team. The Strategy and Development Officer will be responsible for implementing the strategic vision of our organization through their role in development and communications. The successful candidate will be well networked in the think tank and nonprofit space, a gifted fundraiser, an effective presenter, and devoted to our mission. They will work closely with the General Director and the Board of Directors in the following three areas:


  • Lead design and execution of organizational strategy to grow and become operationally and financially sustainable.


  • Locate donors and grant opportunities through university, state, local, business, or nonprofit entities, including but not limited to the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy, the Alumni Association, and the FSU Foundation, Organizational Fund, etc.

  • Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors.

  • Attend relevant events, conferences, and information sessions to cultivate donors and prospects.

  • Create a “Buy us a cup of coffee”, and Patreon account and execute additional strategies for sustaining a large base of semesterly/annual individual donors in a campaign.

  • Manage the establishment of an EIN and 501c3 status to gain tax-exemption status for the organization to accept grants and donations.


  • Establish key metrics and collect necessary data to inform the organizations campus and community impacts as well as develop the Annual Impact Report.

  • Develop and present presentations to potential donors and community members in both campus, and non-campus related capacities, such as involvement fairs, market wednesdays, sponsors, etc.

  • Locate opportunities and lead communications with financial backers, strategic partners, sponsors, the media, non-profit think tanks, policy advocates, and lobbyists.

  • Serve as a credible and compelling spokesperson for the organization.


  • Thorough understanding of both the policy and nonprofit sphere.

  • Assertive fundraiser who is comfortable picking up the phone or meeting virtually, pitching our organization with passion and credibility.

  • Ability to identify, cultivate, and solicit individual donors, foundations, and other sources.
